For this year’s Beijing Motor Show, Volkswagen had a lot of products planned. First it was the Volkswagen Golf R 400 and now the German carmaker has unveiled the New Midsize Coupe concept at the show. The New Midsize Coupe strongly hints at what Volkswagen’s future sport sedan would look like. The same will be positioned below the Volkswagen Passat.
Volkswagen says, the Coupe concept is a perfect blend of a saloon and a sports car. Dimension wise, the Coupe is 1422 mm in height, 4597 mm in length and has an overall width of 1838 mm. It is the design of the car that makes it look sporty, thanks to its dynamic roof line, short overhangs, a short boot lid, swept-back C-pillars, long bonnet and muscular side and shoulder panels.
Based on Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, the car was presented in a Dragon Red color which is supposed to highlight the potential of the vehicle. To name some of the highlights of the New Midsize Coupe, there is a set of 3D LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, an avant-garde radiator grille, a chrome signature lower air intake, air inlet triplets with with aerodynamic fins, LED indicators, a long bonnet with a v-shaped contour, character lines, 20-inch multi-spoke wheels wrapped in 245/40 low profile tires, a uniformly integrated rear spoiler, LED rear lights and more.
The rear also features a diffuser painted in high-gloss black and dual exhaust tailpipes. Accentuating the overall design and bodily, aerodynamically optimized elements are plenty of chrome accents and strips.
The New Midsize Coupe is powered by a 2.0 liter direct injection, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 220 PS and is mated with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The Coupe can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.5 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 244 km/h. Fuel efficiency is rated at 6.4 liters per 100 km.
