The 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is just a week away and this happens to be the best time to release teasers of to-be-shown cars. Volkswagen for that matter is gearing up with a couple of models including the Passat Sport and the Passat BlueMotion.
The next big unveiling to take place from Volkswagen’s booth is of Beetle Dune concept. The German maker has released a sketch of a compact crossover concept based on the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. Compared to the regular Beetle, the rugged off-road look concept is raised by 50 mm and equips massive 19 inch wheels wrapped in large tires.
Accentuating the look further is a rear mounted ski-rack which looks familiar to what we used to see on classic Beetles. The name of the car comes of sand dunes and which is why a unique look has been given to this vehicle.
Coming to the feasibility of this vehicle, the Dune concept is based on the current generation Beetle and is powered by the same turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 210 PS and is mated to a six-speed DSG gearbox, which transmits the power to the front wheels.
