Vauxhall is known for its VXR range for their sheer power packed performance but for the first time Vauxhall will offer such a performance on a non VXR model. The new Astra GTC is now being offered with a powerful new 1.6 liter direct injection petrol engine that delivers performance and a reasonable price.
This all new four cylinder unit was first seen in the Cascada convertible and packs 200PS of max output and 300 Nm of peak torque. With that amount of power at the wheels, the Astra GTC can achieve a top speed of 143 mph and a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 7.3 seconds, making it the fastest and one of the most powerful non VXR models.
Compared to the previous 1.6 liter turbo model, the new engine delivers nearly 30 percent more power and torque yet the overall fuel consumption of 51 mpg and emissions of 154 g/km show a 13 percent improvement. Apart from being more powerful and efficient, the engine is also the only in its class to equip two balancer shafts for smoother operation.
The new Astra GTC also gets some new features including an optional Intellilink infotainment system that would cost £855 should a customer be willing to go for it. The Intellilink system features a 7 inch touchscreen display and is equipped with satellite navigation, voice control, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, picture viewer and Gracenote album art. The top of the range Navi 950 IntelliLink offers even more features including voice recognition, Europe-wide street level mapping and more.
“We’ve strengthened our Astra GTC offering with a strong and powerful 1.6-litre petrol engine and the cutting-edge Intellilink infotainment system,” said Stuart Harris, Vauxhall’s Head of Carline Brand. “Vauxhall is really throwing down the gauntlet to UK coupe sector rivals with these enhancements to our Astra GTC range.”
The new Astra GTC is available for £20,995 (on-road).
