The Land Rover’s new premium sports SUV is officially unveiled, as the British actor Daniel Craig drives the new Range Rover Sport in a live reveal through Manhattan in New York. The new Range Rover Sport is a SUV premium class, offering high performance speed, all-terrain dynamics, modern interior luxury and advanced technology for more comfort and safety.
Engine Power and Performance : Initially, the new Range Rover Sport will be offered with a choice of 4 engine(2 petorl, 2 diesel), where petrol engines will be comprised of 5.0 Litre V8 petrol engine with an output of 510 PS and a new 3.0 Litre V6 petrol engine with an output of 340 PS, while the diesel engines consists of one 3.0 Litre TDV6 diesel engine with an output of 258 PS and a 3.0 Litre SDV6 diesel engine with an output of 292 PS. The additional engine configuration will be introduced later this year which comprised of high-performance 4.4 Litre SDV8 diesel engine with an output of 339 PS and also a highly efficient diesel Hybrid variant which can be booked in later months of 2013, with a delivery in 2014. The diesel engines in the new Range Rover Sport are mated with the advanced electronically controlled ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic gearbox. In its range, the new Range Rover Sport can sprint 0 to 60 miles/hour in sub 5.0 seconds with better efficiency figure depending on the model, with 24% less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions starts with 194 grams/km. And to improve these efficiency figures in its future variants of new Range Rover Sports, Land Rover is open to introduce new lightweight powertrain with high power in a 4-cylinder engine, which will reduce 500 kg* of overall weight as compared to the previous variants.
Driving Dynamics : With the advance level of engineering, the new Range Rover Sport has built with enhanced level of on-road driving dynamics, to offer comfortable riding experience with more connected and agile handling. The lightweight aluminium suspension is fully-independent, with wide-spaced double-wishbones at the front and an advanced multi-link layout at the rear. The best wheel articulation of 546 mm and wheel travel [260 mm front and 272 mm rear], makes it best for tough condition. More ground clearance of 278 mm[an increase of 51 mm], revised air suspension system which varies within two ride heights automatically and advanced Terrain Response® 2 system which is capable of selecting best terrain programme automatically. The new electric power steering featuring lighter, better direct steering ability and an option of 2 permanent All-Wheel Drive systems and the alternative system is 18 kilograms more lighter and features a single-speed transfer case with a Torsen differential, which automatically distributes torque to the axle with most grip, working together with the traction control systems to deliver best traction in all conditions.
Exterior Sportiness : The new Range Rover Sports with a best blend of sports and luxury, is sharing the design DNA between the Range Rover and the Evoque. The more uniqueness from the previous model with fresh bold design depicting power and athletic abilities of the new Range Rover Sport. It is 4850 mm longer which is just 62 mm more in length as compared to its previous model and other 7-seater SUVs & Sedan, more easy to park. On the other hand with a longer wheelbase[increased by 178 mm], it has better space and more access for rear passengers. Shorter overhangs at the front and rear, plus additional width[+55 mm] give the new vehicle a more modern stance. With its faster windscreen angle, streamlined and rounded profile and lower, dynamic sloping roof-line the new Range Rover Sport is 8 percent more aerodynamic than the outgoing vehicle [Cd 0.34]. The new Sport is 149 mm shorter and 55 mm lower than the all-new Range Rover on which it is based and model-for-model weighs 45 kg less. To enhancing its personalization, it will be offered with an option of wheel designs whose diameter vary from 19 to 22 inches[i.e. 19,20,21,22] and the iconic Viper’s Nest wheel design, now available for the first time across all Range Rover models.
Interior Luxury : The new Range Rover Sport is equipped with best mix of syle, luxury with quality elements, clean, premium surface treatment along-with soft-touch surfaces in key touch points around the cabin. The athletic environment of the interior is also added by the smaller diameter, thicker steering wheel, vertical gear shifter, higher centre console, configurable mood lighting and more generous seat bolsters. The Sports Command Driving Position[CDP] combines the supreme sense of confidence and control offered by the Range Rover, with a more sporting seating position similar to the Evoque. Interior packaging is optimized to create a more spacious rear cabin with 24 mm more knee room, while occupants also benefit from the wider cabin. New, neatly integrated third row, occasional 5+2 seating can be specified. These powered seats leave a flat floor with no loss of boot space and are split 50/50.
Advanced Technology : The new advanced chassis technologies introduced in the new Range Rover Sport, consists of the Adaptive Dynamics featuring continuously variable dampers[CVD], and on more powerful models, a dedicated Dynamic mode in the Terrain Response® 2 system for enthusiastic on-road driving. This system is combined with twin-channel Dynamic Response active lean control, a Dynamic Active Rear Locking Differential, and Torque Vectoring by Braking, which transfers torque to the outside wheels during cornering, reducing understeer. The friendly connectivity package offers users to connect consistently to their vehicle, business and family lives. Connected car technology to know the status of the vehicle via an App installed on their smartphone and also provides support features such as Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Emergency Call and Land Rover Assist Call. And a high bandwidth Wi-Fi Hotspot can be installed for using the internet and get the best data connection for their smartphones or tablets. A new and optional color Head-Up Display offers key vehicle and navigation data without the driver needing to look away from the road, using laser technology for superior clarity and contrast. The new model introduces a digital camera system which supports three driver assistance features that help deliver improved driver awareness: Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition and Automatic High Beam Assist. Another unique innovation on the Sport is the new Wade Sensing™ feature that provides ‘depth’ information when driving through water, made even more beneficial to the driver now that the Sport’s maximum wading depth has increased by 150 mm over the previous model to 850 mm.
The new Range Rover Sport sale will start on the third quarter of 2013 and with a launch in 169 markets worldwide. It will be offered in most of the markets with a choice of 4 equipment levels (S, SE, HSE and Autobiography), plus new ‘Dynamic’ versions of the HSE and Autobiography and an extensive choice of colors, finishes and details.
