The upcoming, latest version Kia Soul EV is going to get a major update in the form of a more advanced battery. Kia has confirmed that the forthcoming Soul EV will equip a class-leading battery energy density of 200 Wh/kg, a combined effort made by Kia Motors Corporation and SK Innovation. The battery has a total capacity of 27 kWh, thanks to the development team who managed to pack 192 lithium-ion polymer battery cells in 8 modules. For the Soul EV’s battery cells, Kia used Nickel-rich NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) cathode material.

The main reason of using this material is of its performance factor as the actual EV driving range is decided by the cathode itself. This renders the improved Soul EV to offer a brilliant range of around 200 km on a full charge. To take care of the safety and lifecycle of the battery without compromising on the energy density,
