At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, SsangYong unveiled the XIV-1 which was the first of the series of multi-interface concepts the south Korean carmaker has planned for the masses. The latest addition to this multi-interface concept series is SsangYong XLV, a hybrid crossover aimed for the B-segment that will underpin many of the future SsangYong models.
The design of the XLV concept is based on SsangYong’s new design philosophy – ‘Nature born – 3 Motion’. This is the same design language that was first adopted for the XIV concept series. The name XLV used for the latest concept stands eXciting smart Lifestyle Vehicle and as per SsangYong, the XLV concept is a multi purpose vehicle that also offers pleasurable driving.
On the exterior, the XLV has a robust yet elegant feel to it thanks to the dynamic character lines that flow along the length, striking headlamps, a sleek grille, wider D pillars and a black horizontal split. The styling of the XLV is much like what we have seen on other XIV series concepts, especially the SIV-1 and LIV-1.
The interior is spacious enough to accommodate 7 passengers at a time in a rather interesting seating configuration. The XLV features a 2+2+2+1 seating layout which is quite unique and allows easy communication and proper utilization space of space. Other interior highlights include Honeycombed graphics illumination, bird wing style dashboard, plush fabric seat materials, an orange red trim line and more. Another interesting feature of the car is a double layer glass roof which can be electronically adjusted to alter the amount of light coming into the cabin.
The powertrain configuration comprises of a 10 kW electric motor and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. Powering the electric motor is a 500Wh high performance lithium ion battery. As per SsangYong’s claims, the XLV returns 10 percent lower CO2 emissions as compared to its competitors, which is a great achievement.
Other technological highlights include lane-keeping assistance, auto cruise control, automatic emergency brake system, ‘Safe-Way’ system, ‘Special-Sense’, Adaptive Front Lighting System and more.
