Back in July, French auto giant Peugeot unveiled the much awaited sports car, the RCZ R, at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed. Since the official unveiling, potential customers were waiting for the price announcement, which has happened just recently and alongside the manufacturer has also opened its order books for the RCZ R.
The most interesting fact is that it is the most powerful car ever made by Peugeot. The RCZ R is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine which delivers 270 bhp of power and 243 lb ft of torque. Being a small sized sports car with more than enough power, the RCZ R can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds and can attain a limited top speed of 155 mph.
The car weighs 1280 kg, which is 17 kg lighter than than the 200 bhp RCZ THP on which it is based. The credit for the weight reduction goes to the lightweight components and the smaller, lighter engine that Peugeot has utilized. Peugeot also claims that achieving 270 bhp from a 1.6 litre engine is a class first. This downsized engine, gladly, has also helped the RCZ R to cap its OC2 emission figure at 145 g/km and return 44.8 mpg on a combined cycle.
Some of the noticeable exterior changes seen on the RCZ R, over the standard model include a 10 mm lowered stance, a new rear spoiler (fixed), 19 inch alloy wheels, Peugeot Sport and ‘R’ badges across the body and much more.
The RCZ R uses 380 mm discs which, as per the claims, can bring the car to a halt from 80 mph in less than 61 metres. For improved cornering stability and traction, the RCZ R uses a Torsen differential.
The interior of the car are entirely driver focused. With bucket seats, small steering wheel and short gear lever, the car will offer a more engaging experience for the driver. The interior will also have stitched ‘R’ logo on the seats.
RCZ UK Project Manager Vince Clisham, said “It’ll be limited in terms of the amount we produce, but remember it’s a small segment of the market. The sales volumes will be small, but the sector gets a lot of attention. It’s a significant tick in the box in the RCZ range – it’s something we’ve been looking to do, to give the RCZ a top-end option. We’ll get a big chunk of the volumes because the current RCZ sells well here.”
The RCZ R will be available in four colours – red, black, grey and white and is priced at £31,995. Deliveries will begin in January.
