If you have been reading our blog on a regular basis, you would remember the Astra GTC by Vauxhall which is now available with a more powerful engine. Being the sister company of Vauxhall, Opel has also launched the Opel Astra GTC, which is essentially the same car, with a more powerful engine.
Powering the Opel Astra GTC is a new generation 1.6 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo engine which produces a max of 200 horsepower. With a more powerful engine and a small body structure, the Astra GTC can accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.9 seconds and also achieves the 80 to 120 km/h sprint in fifth gear in the same time. The engine is one of the benchmark setters in its class as it produces 125 hp per liter which is impressive.
Also there is an overboost feature available that catapults the car’s peak torque output to 300 Nm. With the 200 hp unit at heart, the Astra GTC consumes 6.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers and emits 154g/km of CO2.
The engine portfolio of the Astra GTC is completed by the new gen 200 hp 1.6L engine. The diesel range constitutes of the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI engine which produces a brilliant 195 horsepower and 400 Nm of peak torque.
Coming to infotainment now, the car is just as impressive as the new engine is. It comes with Opel’s IntelliLink system featuring a seven-inch, high-resolution color screen which can also show the rear camera view, Bluetooth connectivity, Voice Control. The Navi 950 IntelliLink is also available as an option and contains maps for the entire of Europe.’
Some of the characteristic features of the Astra GTC are a BiTurbo front, side and rear skirt coming from Opel Line Package, a racy feel to the interior, optional aluminum pedals and yellow stitched floor mats, a special motorsports style key and much more.
Opel is also looking at introducing a special Astra GTC model this year. It will not only equip a range of powerful petrol and diesel engines but will also have a number of unique features in regard to the exterior.
The Opel Astra GTC with 1.6L EcoTec diesel engine is priced from 25,250 Euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany).
