In 2003, Nissan launched the first generation Nissan Murano which had a huge impact over the SUV market and recently the Japanese marque has unveiled the 2015 Murano. Unlike the previous generation Muranos which were inspired by the Italian Murano glassware, the latest generation is based on the Nissan Resonance Concept vehicle.
Compared to the previous generation Murano, the new one features the same 111.2 inch long wheelbase but is 1.3 inches wider, 2.5 inches longer and half an inch shorter. The exterior is extremely edgy and flaunts a V-motion front grille taken directly from the Resonance concept, invisible D-pillars, boomerang-shaped LED taillights and LED daytime running lights. Aerodynamically, the new Murano is 16 percent more efficient than the outgoing model and scores a 0.31 coefficient of drag.
Powering the 2015 Murano is a standard 3.5-litre DOHC V6 which is good for 260 hp and peak torque of 240 lb-ft. Mated to the engine will be a standard Xtronic automatic transmission. Nissan expects to have achieved a 20 percent improvement in the fuel efficiency, thanks to a 130 pound reduction in the overall weight. The car will roll on 18 inch or 20 inch alloy wheels and will be offered in front or all wheel drive configurations.
The interior has been updated not only in terms of design but also features. The third generation Murano would come with Nissan’s Advanced Drive-Assist Display featuring a 7.0-inch high-res color display, advanced Bose audio system with 11 speakers, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, NissanConnectSM with Navigation, NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats, climate-controlled front seats, Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control, Nissan Intelligent Key, heated steering wheel, Remote Engine Start, steering wheel and seats with position memory function and a lot more.
The new gen Murano will be offered in four trim levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. The list of safety features will include Blind Spot Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, Moving Object Detection, Cross Traffic Alert and more.
