Nissan Sport Sedan Concept Unveiled At 2014 Detroit Motor Show

Nissan has been known for its radical designs and the latest example of it is the Sport Sedan Concept unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. The concept sedan celebrates the manufacturer’s 80th anniversary in the automobile industry and there was no better platform than NAIAS for the unveil.

The Sport Sedan concept is essentially a design study that will lead the designs of next generation models. What is really interesting about the design language is that it adds the styling of a sports car to a full-size 4 door sedan. The Sport Sedan concept will not only influence the next generation models but will also get a production version very soon.

“The Sport Sedan Concept shows a new, highly emotional and energetic design direction that takes Nissan’s legendary approach of applying sports car principles to a sedan to the next level,” said Nissan Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura. “The Sport Sedan Concept captures that essence with bold and exciting sports car design and proportions.”

It is one of the three advanced concepts that feature the same design language, the other two are the Nissan Resonance and Friend-ME concepts. Some of the common characteristics of the trio include new V-Motion front aspect, “floating” roof and boomerang-shaped headlights and taillights. Other things to notice about the concept include wide proportions, a lowered hoodline and low ground clearance, custom 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels mounted with low-profile 275/30R21 tires, large chrome trunk accent, and more.

The exterior gets a unique “Strad Amber” candy color paint finish achieved by putting a base of gold paint followed by an orange-amber topcoat. Moving on to the interior of the vehicle, the radical styling is reflected on the cabin too. The entire cabin has been given a diamond treatment featuring flat surfaces designed in a way to add three-dimensionality.

Powering the car is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 300 hp and puts them to the front wheels via a sport-tuned Xtronic CVT.
