Customers in the US who are considering buying a top end luxury segment car such as the Mercedes Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and the BMW 7-Series, would be glad to know that BMW has introduced an all new model to its 7 Series lineup.
BMW has announced the new BMW 740Ld xDrive model for the US market which is the latest model line to benefit from BMW’s Advanced Diesel technology. The name, 740Ld xDrive, clearly tells you about the structure of the car i.e it is an extended/long wheelbase version of the the 7 Series and will equip xDrive, a BMW – developed intelligent all-wheel drive system.
The most important feature of the new model is its BMW Advanced Diesel technology equipped engine. It is a 3.0-liter inline-6 cylinder with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology that produces 255 hp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 413 lb-ft between 1,500 – 3,000 rpm. Mated with the efficient engine is the spectacular 8 speed automatic transmission which helps the car accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in an appreciable 6.1 seconds. Although the 740 Ld xDrive specific US EPA fuel economy is not available yet, looking at other models powered by the same engine suggests the new 7 Series model will see a 25 to 30 percent improvement in fuel economy when compared to its gasoline counterparts.
Accounting for this expected improvement are standard features like Driving Dynamics Control, Eco Pro mode and Auto Start/Stop technology. The 3.0 litre 6 cylinder BMW Advanced Diesel engine makes use of a single turbocharger featuring variable vane turbine technology, which offers better torque at the lower band of the rpm.
BMW has fitted a ULEV II emission standards compliant exhaust gas treatment system which benefits from Nox Storage Catalyst, Diesel Particulate Filter, and the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.
With the introduction of BMW 740Ld xDrive, the BMW Advanced Diesel technology range has been seen another expansion. The complete range includes X5 xDrive35d SUV, 535d and 535d xDrive sedans, 328d and 328d xDrive sedans, and 328d xDrive station wagon.
The 2014 740Ld xDrive will have a MSRP of $83,425, including $925 destination and handling.
