Mercedes S65 AMG and SLS AMG GT Final Edition To Debut At Tokyo and Los Angeles

The upcoming Tokyo Motor Show and Los Angeles Auto Show hold immense importance for Mercedes-Benz as the German automaker is completely prepared to showcase two new products. The first product is the AMG version of its S-Class executive sedan, the S 65 AMG. And the other one is the final version of the SLS AMG, called SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION, and Mercedes will halt the production of SLS after this version.

Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH says: “The two new AMG high-performance vehicles represent the spectacular next level for our exciting model array. The S 65 AMG stands for maximum exclusiveness and the unparalleled dynamism of a V12. With the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION we are showing an ultimate, particularly attractive variant of our super sports car.”

First up is the S 65 AMG which has set new benchmarks with its performance figures. The car is powered by a 12 cylinder, biturbo engine putting out 630 bhp and 1000 Nm of torque, and with these figures the S 65 AMG outperforms all other models in its segment. The car accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. It returns 23.7 mpg, making it the most fuel efficient V12 saloon in terms of power and torque.

The high performance engine is mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission featuring three different modes: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M). The ECO start/stop function is always activated in “C” mode. Like the S63, the S 65 features a lithium ion battery with a capacity of 78 Ah which replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery, resulting in a weight saving of over 20 kg. Other highlights include AMG forged wheels, AMG ceramic braking system (optionally available), AMG sports suspension with MAGIC BODY CONTROL, head-up display and touchpad as standard and much more.

Next up is the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION, which will mark an end to the SLS AMG series. Mercedes will build only 350 units of the FINAL EDITION, offering the last opportunity for customers to order an SLS AMG. The super sports car is powered by the 6.3 litre V8 front-mid engine putting out 591 bhp. The SLS AMG has been an icon of the brand with the Final Edition, it is going to become one of the legendary cars of all time.
