A while back we reported the Infiniti Q50 EAU Rouge Concept is going to be revealed at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. And finally, it has happened. Yes, the Q50 EAU Rouge Concept has been revealed at NAIAS a.k.a Detroit Motor Show, expressing the design vision of Infiniti for its Q50 performance sedan.
The car speaks performance from every possible angle and there is no denying to this fact. The EAU Rouge edition has been developed in collaboration with four-time Formula One World Champions Infiniti Red Bull Racing and this is the sole reason why it looks that mean.
“If we built this car I would expect it to feature over 500hp and 600lb/ft of torque. Through our various alliance partners we have access to a range of engines featuring this performance capability which, with a fair amount of engineering effort, can be developed to exhibit Infiniti character and accommodated within the Q50 engine bay. The engine we are evaluating for the Q50 Eau Rouge is a big personality, V-cylinder engine with forced induction. I think our engineers have been waiting for a project like this,” said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited.
The concept sedan features many components mirrored from the successful RB9 race car. Body-wise the complete exterior is bespoke to the Eau Rouge concept except the front doors and the arch of the roof pillars which are retained from the standard version. It is 20 mm wider than the regular version and features new front and rear wings and a larger deck lid spoiler.
The paintwork of the car is complemented by dark-chrome detailing that replaces the bright chrome detailing found on the production version Q50. The signature grille too gets the dark-chrome’s matte finish and so does the glasshouse surrounds, door handles and deck lid accents. Last but not the least, the exterior flaunts a set of lightweight 21-inch forged alloy wheels.
The interior offers command and comfort at the same time, and in fact it has been designed to do so. Some of the interior highlights include a high-grip sports steering wheel with Formula One-style paddle-shifters, dark chrome treatment, a red cockpit theme with red-infused carbon fibre detailing and more.
