Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), which is held in Las Vegas, is one of the most interesting exhibitions of automobiles and each year visitors get to see products that are ahead of their times in terms of creativity and innovation. For a couple of years now, ARK Performance has been a core Hyundai SEMA partner and every year, the duo together, bring something new and refreshingly powerful.
Adding to their successful SEMA legacy, for the 2013 show, Hyundai and ARK Performance have developed a new Legato Concept based on the Genesis Coupe. The name Legato is an Italian musical term which means ‘tied together’ and in context of the new concept it conveys the seamless integration of a futuristic design, tuned performance and luxury coupe interior ambience.
On the exterior, while retaining the original design identity, ARK has taken the production Genesis coupe to a level where it becomes more of a concept. Having said that the car would look extremely cool as it gets a comprehensive bodily treatment including front and rear bumpers, side skirts, deck lid and wide-body cues, for a truly unique and exotic performance look. And complementing the concept-like design is a racing silver paint job.
“The ARK Legato Concept demonstrates the compelling appeal and versatility of the original Genesis Coupe production concept,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “ARK Performance has taken this original concept and expanded its appeal to the most demanding premium coupe owners at a whole new level.”
The design of the Legato Concept was just as important to ARK and Hyundai both, as was the engine. And for that, the production-based Hyundai 3.8-liter Lambda V6 engine has been up-tuned to 4.0 litres of displacement and an output of 400 bhp and 425 lb.-ft. These changes have been brought by a series of components which include a Brian Crower (BC) 4.0 Stroker Kit with JE Pistons and BC 4340 crankshaft, connecting rods, and ARK oil cooler, an ARK intake system, a lightweight pulley kit and an ARK dual-mass flywheel and carbon clutch kit.
On the interior, the car is as exotic as it is on the outside. The list of the noteworthy interior features include Takata Drift Pro LE seats, AiM Sports Strada GT steering wheel, digital gauge cluster and a Rockford Fosgate premium sound system.
