Nearly ten days ago, Ford released the first pictures and official details of the all new Ford Focus and the latest buzz is that Ford will unveil the car at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Presented first at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the new Focus features a completely new design which is on the lines of the new Ford models. The exterior features a new bonnet, inverted trapezoidal grille, chiseled headlamps and elongated fog lamps.
Aside from the new design, another important change is the addition of SYNC 2, the latest version of Ford’s voice-activated in-car connectivity system. The system features an 8 inch high-res color touch screen which responds to voice commands to control audio, climate control, navigation and more. For the European market, the SYNC 2’s navigation system will have a split-screen display to offer a more detailed view of the map.
As far as the driving technologies are concerned, there will be a lot of goodies on the new Focus. For the first time Ford has introduced Perpendicular Parking on any of its models. This smart feature allows drivers to reverse into tight parking spaces with ease. Ford had to add two new sensors at the rear for the Perpendicular Parking feature. Other new technologies to make it to the list include Cross Traffic Alert, Park-Out Assist, Ford’s MyKey, Active City Stop collision avoidance system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Assist system, Distance Alert and Indication system, new Electronic Stability Programme and more.
Ford also claims to have up the dun factor of the new Focus by enhancing the handling of the car and have also made important updates to the steering system. Ford has also managed to improve the fuel efficiency figures of the entire engine range. It includes the 1.5 liter PowerShift diesel which produces 120 PS of power and offers 19 percent improvement in fuel consumption.
Ford is expected to put the new Focus on sale in the second half of 2014.
