Fiat To Unveil All New Panda Cross At 2014 Geneva Motor Show

At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Fiat is going to unveil the all new Fiat Panda Cross, an even more capable vehicle based on the new Fiat Panda 4X4. To debut on March 4th, the car is claimed to be a performer both in city traffic and toughest off-road conditions. The Panda 4X4 is a capable car but the Panda Cross steps up the ladder thanks to its improved ground clearance, performance and new features.

What makes the Panda Cross a capable vehicle is a range of features including the standard ‘Torque-on-Demand’ transmission system which works in conjunction with Panda Cross’ ELD (Electronic Locking Differential) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) systems to deliver optimum torque according to the driving conditions. Complementing the transmission system is the new Terrain Control selector which has three different driving modes: AUTO, LOCK, and HILL DESCENT.

In comparison with the Panda 4X4, the Panda Cross also comes with larger wheels wrapped in all-season 185/65R15 tyres. The suspension duty is taken up by an independent MacPherson unit at the front and a torsion beam layout at the rear. The car also gets higher ground clearance and improved approach and departure angles, which are 24° and 33° respectively.

Powering the Panda Cross is a pair of engines featuring Start&Stop as standard and slightly more power. There is a new 0.9 TwinAir Turbo engine that happily produces 90 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 145Nm (107 lb ft) between 1,900 rpm and 3,000 rpm. This engine consumes 57.6 mpg, emits 114 g/km of CO2, and comes mated to a 6 speed manual transmission.

Fiat will also offer a 1.3 MultiJet II turbo-diesel engine that puts out 80 hp of power at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 190 Nm (140 lb ft) at just 1,500 rpm. The engine consumes 60.1 mpg of fuel and emits 125 g/km of CO2.

The list of interior features include unique fabric/eco-leather upholstery, new dashboard, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob, automatic climate control, Blue&Me connectivity, electric door mirrors, height-adjustable driver’s seat, City Brake Control and more.
