Coming as a surprise, Audi has unveiled the 2014 S1 Sportback model which is all set to debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The 2014 S1 Sportback is based on the A1 subcompact hatchback and equips a powerful TFSI engine and Audi’s quattro all wheel drive system. This is the first time when a series production car of this segment equips an all wheel drive system.
Of course, there will be the standard S1 as well, along with the five-door S1 Sportback. As far as the pricing is concerned, the S1 will be priced from £24,900 OTR, while the S1 Sportback starts from £25,630 OTR. Audi UK will start taking orders from mid-March and the car is expected to hit the shores in spring.
Let us talk about the powertrain of the car now. The S1 models draw their power from a new 2.0-litre TFSI engine that produces a brilliant 231 PS and peak power of 370 Nm. This small yet amazingly potent engine helps the S1 and S1 Sportback complete the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 5.8 seconds and 5.9 seconds respectively, while offering a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel efficiency figures for the two models stand at 40.3 mpg and 39.8 mpg. The S1 emits 162 g/km of CO2, while the Sportback variant emits 166 g/km of CO2.
The S1 and S1 Sportback models equip a short-shift 6 speed manual gearbox and the quattro all wheel drive system. The car also makes use of the Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC) system that clubs electronic differential lock and wheel-selective torque control system.
Apart from a new engine, one of the most important change is the reworked suspension and electromechanical steering wheel. For UK, Audi will offer the cars with 17-inch wheels with 215/40 R17 tyres, while an 18 inch set will be an optional feature. Being the S line models, they come with a host of S Quattro-specific elements including standard xenon plus headlights, LED rear lights, a sculpted roof spoiler, along with two new exterior colors: Vegas yellow and Sepang blue.
In addition to the exclusive bodily and technical features, the S1 will also feature a variety of gadgetries for the cabin. There will be a 6.5-inch retractable colour display, Bluetooth connectivity, Driver’s Information System, brushed stainless steel pedals, Milano leather and Olympic cloth upholstery sport seats, electronic climate control and more.
