Expanding its lineup, Mercedes Benz has unveiled the all new 2014 Mercedes Benz CLA. The new four door coupe styled compact sedan takes its design cues from the Mercedes CLS and does not deviate much from the Concept Style Coupe on which it is based. Launched in the CLA250 specification, the car is expected to arrive in US dealerships come September.
The exterior carries the radical design of the Concept Style Coupe and features seamless integration of convex and concave surfaces. There is a diamond look grille, a muscular hood with power domes, headlamps with flame effect, daytime running lights, a coupe-like sloping roof line, prominent character lines, optional panorama roof and more. The premium look and feel of the CLA is also reflected on the inside, credit going to anthracite finished elements, black ash wood, burl walnut wood and aluminum trims. Other highlights include black piano-lacquer trim display with a silver frame, galvanized inserts and galvanized finish for the outer rings of the air vents.
The CLA250 will be available in a standard variant as well as a CLA250 4MATIC. Both the models are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 208 hp and a max torque of 258 lb-ft. The engine is paired to a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission for sporty performance and also features ECO stop/start function for added fuel savings.
As far as the safety of the people on-board is concerned, the CLA equips an array of technologies as standard. These include ATTENTION ASSIST, radar-based COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, adaptive Brake Assist, ABS, ESP and more. Optional safety features include DISTRONIC Plus, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist and PARKTRONIC with Advance Parking Assist.
There is also a Sports package available on the CLA250 that adds a Sports body styling, 18-inch AMG twin 5-spoke wheels and perforated disc brakes.
