Citroen’s China-exclusive brand DS is going to unveil an all new premium SUV at this year’s Beijing Motor Show. The new SUV is named DS 6WR and is directly inspired by Citroen DS Wild Rubis Concept that was unveiled last year.
The 6WR is a special product for Citroen DS as it is the brand’s first SUV product and takes a fresh approach to a premium utility vehicle. Styling wise the 6WR is an SUV true to the core but features various DS design cues that make it sporty and aggressive at the same time.
The SUV is 4.55 m in length, 1.61 m in height, 1.86 m in width and features a 2.73 m long wheelbase. With those dimensions, the 6WR will offer enough space and versatility to compete with any car in the SUV segment.
Not using a four wheel drive system as seen on other conventional SUVs, DS has used Grip Control instead. This is a entirely different system which offers optimized traction on most terrains and also helps improve fuel consumption while cutting down CO2 emissions.
Powertrain choices for the 6WR will include two units: an e-THP 160 and a THP 200. The engines feature a twin scroll type turbocharger, a high-pressure pump and sequential direct injection. Customers will be offered with a standard 6-speed automatic gearbox with each of the THP hearts.
Exterior highlights include a new DS Wings grille design featuring two wings finished in chrome, Xenon headlamps with daytime running lights, a wraparound tailgate with integrated taillights, chrome accents and dual exhaust.
The 6WR will be built at the company’s Shenzhen facility in China and is expected to be introduced by the end of 2014. The official unveiling would take place in the second half of the year.
