The 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups are here and, as expected, with a number of improvements and added features. There are a number of changes that we would see in the entire F-series including an improved Ford-built, 6.7 liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine, an upgraded F-450 model and a revamped Super Duty Ranch edition.
“Truck leadership means never resting, and the Super Duty team has been tireless in finding ways to improve the industry’s most popular heavy-duty pickups,” said Joe Hinrichs, executive vice president and president of The Americas, Ford Motor Company. “Super Duty diesel customers will benefit from improved performance and features backed by outstanding Built Ford Tough durability.”
Let us talk about the engine first. The new and improved version is actually the second generation of the Ford-built Power Stroke engine and is a result of constant improvement made from customer feedback. The engine now features a shorter airflow from the exhaust system to the turbocharger for improved turbo responsiveness. The turbo is now placed inside the engine’s valley which technically improves performance, and efficiency, while reducing the NVH levels.
Because of the changes made to the turbocharger, Ford also had to improve the fuel delivery system which makes use of a new high-pressure fuel pump and new fuel injectors. There is also a new exhaust temperature sensor that not only improves durability and drivability but also helps the Power Stroke engine to attain its max performance levels.
Other changes made to the Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine include new four-layer exhaust manifold gasket for improved durability, new five-layer head gasket to handle wider range of engine firing pressures resulting from more powerful engine performance, new polymer coating on main bearings, a new torque converter to manage increased horsepower and torque, piston assembly upgrades, redesigned turbo oil and cooling lines, improved crankshaft fillet design and more.
Coming to the Ford F-450 now, it features a host of upgrades including a strengthened frame, suspension, new 19.5-inch wheels and tires and much more. The 2014 F-450 offers improved performance and towing capabilities, thanks to upgrades including an upgraded rear driveline U-joints, new rear leaf springs, front and rear stabilizer bars, new shocks, stronger steering gears and steering linkages, larger brakes and F-450 specific diesel engine calibration.
Last but not the least, the 2015 F-Series King Ranch edition has been comprehensively revamped. Especially the interior which features a Running W cut out which is stitched on the seats and center console. For the trim part, Ford has used a lighter, richer shade of Mesa leather that applies to the seats, center console lid, armrests and steering wheel.
On the exterior the upgrades are equally good thanks to a new darker Caribou paint used on the wheel lip moldings, bumpers and lower body. However, for the bed rail caps, bumper caps and running boards Ford has used black paint.
