2015 Fiat 500 Abarth And Abarth Cabrio Get Automatic Transmission Option

At the 2014 New York International Auto Show, Fiat is going to showcase the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio models with a new, much-anticipated feature. Can you guess the one we are talking about? These high performance 500 models have offered plenty of features except for an automatic gearbox, but the 2015 iterations of the same will be available with an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new 6-speed transmission will be available alongside the standard 5-speed manual unit and have been specifically tuned to deliver performance. To match the performance level of the potent engine that powers the 500 Abarth models, Fiat has added more clutch plates and have heat-treated the unit’s components to withstand high torque outputs. There will also be a Sport mode which when enabled offers an even more engaging experience.

The new automatic transmission will not be available on the 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio but also on the 2015 Fiat 500 Turbo. The transmission options will be mated with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine.

Talking about the Fiat 500 Turbo, the car was first launched in 2012 for customers who were specifically looking for even greater performance levels. The 2015 Fiat 500 Turbo retains the sporty character of the original model and remains one of the affordable vehicles equipped with a turbocharged engine. Apart from performance, the 500 Turbo also offers a distinctive, appealing look thanks to a number of styling changes that have been adopted for the car.

The front of the car features a aggressive styling while the sides flaunt even bolder side skirts. The rear of the car equips a tailgate-mounted spoiler and diffuser with black accents. The performance-oriented model runs on 16-inch aluminum wheels that complement the special set of exterior components it comes with.

Besides the new automatic transmission, the entire 500 Abarth range will also get a new instrument panel featuring a 7 inch hd display. The entire 2015 lineup will arrive in Fiat studios come July.
