2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition: Detailed Review

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2014 SLS AMG Final Edition, the car that bids farewell to the SLS AMG series. By the second quarter of 2014 Mercedes-Benz will stop the production of SLS AMG and the Final Edition is the last car of the series and will be built in limited numbers, 350 units to be precise. So for all those customers who want to see the 2014 SLS AMG in their garage, this is the last opportunity.

In this post we would talk about the car in detail and know what is new and what’s not about the 2014 SLS AMG Final Edition. The car’s launch will happen in March 2014 and it will be made available in Coupe and Roadster versions. Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH said, “As the first car to be completely developed by AMG, the SLS AMG marked the beginning of a new era for our company. And now, in the form of the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION, we are offering our customers one final and extremely attractive variant of our super sports car. With its numerous carbon fibre-look body components, a further optimised aerodynamic balance and optional Cup tyres, the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION has the absolute potential to fascinate.”

Exterior – Lots Of Carbon Fibre

Visually the car stands out of the bunch, thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre – a carbon fibre-effect bonnet with central air outlet, a carbon-fibre front splitter on the front apron and the fixed carbon-fibre rear aerofoil. The carbon-fibre work is complemented by the designo magno graphite matt paintwork adopted from the collector’s model, the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY”. Giving a plush feel to the rear of the car are apron struts finished in high gloss black. The aerodynamics of the car are remarkably improved and the credit yet again goes to aforementioned carbon-fibre components including the bonnet, front splitter and the rear aerofoil. The central outlet on the bonnet effectively dissipates engine heat as well as increases the down force on the front axle.

Another addition is the AMG forged wheels in a cross-spoke design which are available in two color options: : painted matt black with a high-sheen finish or painted matt black with a high-sheen rim flange. The paint scheme is further accentuated by red-painted brake calipers. The car also equips a new “Dunlop Sport Maxx Race” Cup set of tires in size 265/35 R 19 (front) and 295/30 R 20 (rear).

Interior – Designo Exclusive Leather In A Diamond Pattern

For customers who demand performance along with a high-quality, premium-feel interior, Mercedes-Benz has adopted the striking designo Exclusive leather in a diamond pattern for the upholstery on the center panels of the seats as well as doors. To top the black leather upholstery off, the brand has used a contrasting topstitching in silver coordinates, silver seat belts and black floor mats edged in silver leather.

A very exclusive thing on the interior of the Final Edition is the “AMG FINAL EDITION – 1 of 350″ badge on the carbon fibre center console. If you are not yet convinced, the interior of the car also uses the so-called “3D seam” feature which is a fine strip of Alcantara that is a part of the leather covered instrument panel. Carbon-fibre trim comes as standard.

Engine – 591 BHP And 650 Nm

Under the carbon fibre bonnet is the front mid-mounted AMG 6.3-litre V8 power unit that produces 591 bhp of max power at 6800 rpm and maximum torque of 650 newton metres at 4750 rpm. The immensely powerful engine is mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission which is a perfect match to the naturally aspirated V8 unit. The transmission features four shift programmes, RACE START and an automatic double-declutching function. Joining this performance configuration is the AMG RIDE CONTROL performance suspension featuring variable, electronically controlled damping.

With such an overwhelming set of components, the SLS AMG Final Edition accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, and can reach 125 mph in 11.2 seconds. The top speed of the car is 198 mph (electronically limited).

The pricing of the car will soon be announced.
