Mercedes Benz has already made its mark with the reinvented Mercedes S-Class, thanks to the immensely long list of technologies the car comes with. Shortly after the launch of the 2014 S-Class, Mercedes and AMG together brought the S-Class AMG which again proves to be a strong contender in the executive saloon segment.
The next big thing coming from Mercedes’ stables is the 2014 S 600, the top of the range S-Class that has been unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. S 600 is only available with long wheelbase and packs a range of luxury features.
“The S-Class has always been the embodiment of our claim to deliver the very best in terms of both technology and design” emphasised Ola Källenius, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars. “And our flagship model, the S 600, epitomises the focus of our development work, the ‘Essence of Luxury’, in a way that no other model can. Our customers in North America and Asia in particular will enjoy this new top model with its exciting V12 engine.”
The S 600 is powered by the V12 biturbo engine that packs 530 hp, an increase of 13 hp, and peak torque of 830 Nm available from 1,900 rpm. The car for the first time features the ECO start/stop function as standard, ensuring it meets Euro 6 emissions standard. The S 600 delivers a combined fuel economy of 25.4 mpg, marking a 21 percent improvement over its predecessor.
The list of standard highlights on the S 600 V12 biturbo include LED Intelligent Light System, the MAGIC BODY CONTROL suspension with ROAD SURFACE SCAN, and Driving Assistance package Plus. The package comprises of Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist, DISTRONIC PLUS with STEER CONTROL and Stop&Go Pilot, PRE-SAFE Brake and PRE-SAFE PLUS.
Come March, all entire S-Class range will be updated with new features such as a revised head unit that can be controlled with an optional touchpad, as with a smartphone. The touchpad would also support handwriting recognition in many languages, in addition to the existing COMAND Controller and LINGUATRONIC.
A head-up display will also be available on the S-Class as an option, offering system information on speed, speed limits and navigation instructions. The S-Class’ COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST will soon be replaced with a COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. Besides these, there are a variety of updates that will come in the new S-Class.
