Kia Motors America (KMA) has introduced a new member of the Optima family to the masses at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show. It is the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid, a mid-size hybrid sedan aimed that looks beautiful, is feature rich and comes with a host of hi-tech and safety features. It is one of the three eco-friendly vehicles showcased by Kia in Chicago.
Of course, the Kia Optima Hybrid is based on the well-known, award winning Kia Optima which was launched last year, and features a range of new improvements over its predecessor. In comparison to the gasoline powered sibling, the Hybrid version gets an updated front and rear fascia offering increased aerodynamic performance, new ally wheel designs, redesigned lighting elements and a unique grille.
For 2014, the Kia Optima will be available in two trim levels: Optima Hybrid LX and Optima Hybrid EX. Both the cars are powered by the same gas + electric powertrain that offers a combined output of 199 hp and peak torque of 235 lb-ft, of which 47 hp comes from an electric traction motor. The models also come with a strong Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) and a 47 kW lithium polymer battery pack. As far as the fuel efficiencies are concerned, the LX model returns 36 mpg in city, 40 mpg on highway and 38 mpg combined, while the EX model delivers 35 mpg in city, 39 mpg on highway and 37 mpg combined.
Safety wise the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid is well equipped, thanks to features like front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, passenger advanced front airbags, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), four-wheel Antilock Brake System (ABS), and Hill Start Assist Control (HAC).
The car is as pleasing on the inside as its on the outside. There is a long list of standard features including front LED lighting, ‘Hybrid’ badges, push button ignition, a choice of two instrument clusters – 4.3-inch TFT LCD and optional high-resolution 8-inch screen, navigation system, UVO eServices, 8-speaker Infinity sound system, HD Radio , SiriusXM Satellite Radioand SiriusXM Traffic.
