At the Houston Auto Show, Jeep has introduced the new special edition ‘Altitude’ models of the 2014 Grand Cherokee, Cherokee and Wrangler. The models will arrive in Jeep dealerships come spring and will feature unique ‘blacked-out’ exteriors. The name Altitude comes from a one of the Jeep fans who participated in a contest to name a Grand Cherokee concept showcased at the 2012 Houston Motor Show.
Starting with the 2014 Cherokee Altitude, the car is based on the standard Cherokee and available with either 2.4-liter MultiAir2 Tigershark I-4 engine or the 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, in 4×4 or 4×2 configurations. The 2.4 liter heart delivers up to 31 mpg which is appreciably good, and the Pentastar unit produces 271 hp and can tow up to 4500 lbs.
Since it is an Altitude edition, a number of bodily features have been added such as a black daylight opening (DLO), roof rails, front fascia lower applique and badging, gloss black grille surrounds, 18 inch gloss black painted aluminum wheels, and blacked out interior. Exterior color options include four choices: Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat and Brilliant Black Crystal Metallic Clear Coat. The 4×2 model is priced at $24,995 and the 4×4 model at $26,995.
Next in the list is 2014 Grand Cherokee Altitude. It is powered by a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that develops 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It is mated with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, and returns 25 mpg on the highway. Exclusive bodily features include 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels, front grille with gloss black bezel, lower front fascia applique, badging, halogen headlamps with black bezels, platinum chrome grille texture, grey satin gloss tail lamp bezels, an SRT-style roof rail and more.
The interior features standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen, black Capri leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel featuring paddle shifters, remote start, auto-dimming rear view mirror, ParkSense rear back-up sensors, ParkView back-up camera, heated steering wheel, and more. It will be available in Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black Metallic Coat, Deep Cherry, Granite Crystal and Maximum Steel exterior color options. The 4×2 models will cost you $35,290, while the 4×4 models will come for $37,290.
Last in the list in 2014 Jeep Wrangler Altitude which is also powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivering 285 hp and 260 lb ft of torque. The engine is either mated to a standard six-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic transmission. The exterior is well equipped and features head lamp rings, gloss black front and rear bumper appliques, standard body color Freedom Top decal, 18-inch 7 spoke aluminum wheels, matte black grille etc.
The interior comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with black spokes and black stitching, black painted vent rings, standard black leather seats with black stitching,, black finish hex bolts, black finish door and instrument panel buttons etc. The Wrangler two-door is priced at $31,595 while the Unlimited model will cost $35,395.
