Fiat is going to unveil the 2014 Fiat 500 at the 84th International Motor Show which starts in Geneva tomorrow. The new Fiat 500 has been improved both in terms styling and technological features, and the most important introduction is a new, segment-first, 7 inch TFT digital instrument panel.
Developed in collaboration with Magnetti Marelli, the display provides all the information relevant about various features of the car. While the earlier versions came fitted with analogue dials, the TFT display is a major step up yet it seems extremely familiar to the previous layout. The center of the screen, which displays the car by default, can be configured to display distance travelled, fuel consumption, etc. The same screen also warns the driver in case of low fuel, open doors etc.
Apart from the all new screen, another important addition is the new TwinAir engine. From 2014 onwards, the Fiat 500 adds a new 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo engine to its options’ list. This new engine comes loaded with technologies such as cylinder head integrated exhaust manifold, Start/Stop system, new turbocharger, new valve control and more.
The 0.9 TwinAir Turbo is capable of producing 105 hp of power at max at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 145 Nm at 2000 rpm in Sport mode. The car can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in a decent 10 seconds and achieve a top speed of 117 mph. The TwinAir model returns 67 mpg while emitting 99 g/km of CO2 per kilometer. The same model also comes with rear disk brakes as standard.
Last but not the least, Fiat has added a range-topping variant to the 500 range, the Fiat 500 Cult. The model is based on Fiat 500 Lounge version and features a new design 16-inch alloy wheels, door mirror covers in gloss black or chrome, roof panel in gloss black, exterior detailing in chrome, rear parking sensors, tail light surrounds in gloss black and more.
As for the interior, the Cult model features the new 7 inch TFT instrument cluster and new leather seats available in three leather upholsteries: black leather, tobacco leather and red leather.
The 2014 Fiat 500 will also be available in two new body colors: Retro green and new 3-layer White.
