For a while now a lot of spy shots of BMW’s 4 Series Convertible which is based on the 4 Series coupe, have been emerging from time to time and with every spy shot there was something new to be known about the car. Obviously, this generated a lot of curiosity among BMW fans and BMW, bringing an end to the never ending curiosity, has released the official images and specifications recently.
The 2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible is all set to make its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show and is essentially a topless version of the 4 Series coupe. The car will be available in the US in the same 428i, 435i and a new 420d guises as the Coupe model, which means it will have the same performance figures as the latter. The 428i Convertible will be powered by BMW’s 2.0 litre turbocharged inline four cylinder engine that is good enough for 245 bhp and 255 lb-ft of torque and is available in both rear drive and all wheel drive versions. As per BMW, the 428i Convertible will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds and returns 41.5 mpg.
Buyers in need of some extra thrust can go for the 435i Convertible model which is powered by a 3.0 litre, twin-turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine capable of generating 300 bhp of power and 300 lb-ft of torque. It can spring from 0 to 62 mph in just under 5.6 seconds and consumes 34.9 mpg. Complementing the petrol line-up will be a new 420d Convertible version that puts out 184 bhp of power and 380 Nm of torque. The 0 to 62 mph spring time is close to 8.2 seconds and consumes 55.4 mpg. Along with the engine options, BMW has also confirmed that both the variants will be available with a six speed manual transmission as standard, along with an optional 8 speed automatic gearbox.
The 4 Series convertible features a three-piece folding hardtop which, as per BMW, takes just 20 seconds to fold completely at speeds up to 11 mph. The cabin has a lot to offer including front and rear parking sensors, heated electric front seats, Servotronic steering, a Sport-multi-function leather steering wheel and Xenon headlights. DAB radio, Dakota leather upholstery with SunReflective technology, Two-zone air conditioning, Cruise control, Bluetooth, USB, Comfort Go, Drive Performance Control, iDrive Controller with a 6.5-inch colour screen and much more.
The car will be available in five trims: SE, Sport, Luxury, Modern and M Sport trim, each featuring a set of high end luxury and tech features, starting from the SE which is the standard trim up to the M Sport trim which is meant for those looking for complete sportiness. Pricing of the 4 Series Convertible starts from £36,675 for 420d SE, and goes up to £44,970 for a 435i in M Sport trim.
