Not may cars are known for the kind of dynamics they offer and the BMW Z4 is one of them. Last year BMW unveiled the updated version of the Z4 roadster, which happens to be the German automaker’s only two seat drop top model. For the new Z4, BMW has added a new entry level Z4 sDrive18i model, Pure Traction Design package and even more standard equipment.
Talking about the new entry level model first, the Z4 sDrive18i is powered by a detuned version of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-scroll turbocharged engine. This very 1997cc unit produces 156hp at 5,000rpm which is good enough to propel the car from standstill to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds and attain a top speed of 137 mph. The sDrive18i manages to records 41.5 mpg along with a CO2 emission figure of 159 grams per kilometer.
Aside from the new model, the Z4 sDrive20i also gets improved. It develops 184 hp and yet manages 41.5 mpg and 159 g/km of CO2. Of the complete Z4 range, the sDrive20i is one of the most selling models. Moving up the model range, the sDrive28i, sDrive35i and sDrive35is offer brilliant performance thanks to their output figures of 245hp, 306hp and 340hp respectively. All the three models have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
As standard the Z4 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, while an eight-speed automatic with gear shift paddles is available as an option for customers. In addition, the Z4 sDrive35is features a seven-speed Double Clutch Transmission with gear shift paddles.
Coming to the design of the car, BMW has also brought a subtle touch to the styling of the Z4. Highlights include new headlights featuring white LED corona rings and a white ‘eyebrow’ with extra chrome. On the sides the car gets LED side repeater lights and side gill chrome detailing.
For the new model year the Z4 gets Pure Traction Design package which is available in Valencia Orange. It also comes with sport seats wrapped in Alcantara and leather with contest stitching, Anthracite headlining, and more. For customers willing to pay extra for the Pure Traction Design package, they must know it costs rom £550 up to £2,240, depending on what model the customer is going for.
The list of standard equipment is long and includes new style 17-inch and 18-inch V-spoke wheels, Kansas leather upholstery (except the entry level sDrive18i), DAB radio, Xenon headlights, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, Sport multi-function steering wheel and more. There are also three new color options: Mineral Grey, Glacier Silver and Valencia Orange.
The pricing of the new Z4 starts from £27,610 OTR and goes up to £45,795 OTR.
