Prokhorov’s Yo-Auto pitches CNG-hybrid 2012

Prokhorov’s Yo-Auto pitches CNG-hybrid 2012

Prokhorov City Car Natural Gas Hybrid Vehicle Design Prototype Yo-Auto, the hybrid-vehicle maker launched in part by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, is pitching a crossover hybrid that can run on both gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) and can get about 65 miles per gallon. The company, which is owned by Prokhorov’s Onexim Group and Russia-based truckmaker Yarovit, is also investing in a second assembly line at its St. Petersburg plant to double production capacity, HybridCars.com reported, citing a press conference held by Prokhorov in Russia. The crossover, pitched in a video from Yo-Auto and available after the jump, will be able to run on both gasoline and CNG, and will be able to go more than 400 miles on a full tank. Always running in all-wheel-drive mode, the CUV will be able to go from 0 to 100 kilometers/hour (62 mph) in about 10 seconds, and will be....

Jay Leno Camaro 2012

Back in 2009, General Motors whipped up a special-edition Chevrolet Camaro for Jay Leno. With a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine, unique aerodynamic and cooling work, Brembo brakes on all four corners and a Pedders coil-over suspension kit, the vehicle was designed to be a modern interpretation of the old Z28. Small aesthetic tweaks abound as well, from a revised front fascia to functional brake duct inlets on the rear quarters and unique exhaust outlets. GM even slathered the vehicle in the same paint as the original Camaro Concept. Very sexy. Why do we bring up the 420 horsepower special edition now? Because Leno just took delivery of it. The latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage pours over every last detail of the car before hitting the road. We like the idea of a better-handling, more track-focused Camaro, and while the Camaro ZL1 has scratched that itch for plenty of people,....

The diesel engine at the front acts as a generator when the batteries are exhausted. Pininfarina Cambiano reaches 275 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds and has a range of more than 200km.

Nissan teases Hi-Cross Concept 2012

Nissan is headed to this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March with a slew of concept vehicles. The company has let slip a teaser for one of those creations, complete with a quick video. The automaker calls the new vehicle the Hi-Cross Concept, and from the look and sound of things, we can expect to see a new high-riding hatchback roll onto the stage in Switzerland. Details aren’t just scarce at the moment – they’re entirely absent, which means we’ll have to wait until the Hi-Cross receives its official debut at the show to learn more. Nissan is also bringing along the Invitation Concept it showed off earlier this month. The pint-sized hatchback is designed to indicate exactly what the automaker has planned for its next small car. Like the Hi-Cross, Nissan has kept drivetrain details for the Invitation to itself for the time being. Hit the jump for a....

2012 Hyundai Azera

2012-hyundai-azera Video Preview : 2012 Hyundai AzeraTest Drive & Car Review Hyundai is on a new-product war path. The company’s plan to unveil seven new or significantly redesigned vehicles in just 24 months has officially come to fruition with the introduction of the 2012 Azera. This model is the last in that ambitious push, and as such, it wears plenty of design elements borrowed from those that came before it. It would be difficult to miss the similarities between the sweeping chrome grille and wrapped headlights of the Azera and those found on company’s Sonata. The design is somewhat more toned down in the new application, and the front fascia actually manages to look more menacing than melted. Details like LED trim work in the headlights and prominent fog lamps also help give the 2012 Azera additional presence up front. Move to the vehicle’s side, and it’s clear the sedan’s....

BMW M135i 2012

BMW hasn’t announced it yet, but sources familiar with BMW’s production plans have told Autoblog that the M135i concept, which will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show, will go into production. The 1 Series hatch with M Performance modifications and a gas-powered, turbocharged inline six will send 300+ horsepower to its 18-inch wheels in either rear-wheel drive or xDrive configurations. According to Autoweek it will perform much like the 1M Coupe, getting from standstill to 62 mph in under five seconds. Continental Europe will get it for sure, but markets like the UK won’t since xDrive isn’t yet compatible with right-hand-drive. The UK market has been told that only the X models will have all-wheel drive until the next-gen 5 Series arrives. We’re probably out in the cold as well, but we’ll know more in Geneva.

Infiniti World’s Fastest M35h-Hybrid Car 2012

Nissan clearly wants to get as much mileage as it can out of the “duel” it staged between its Infiniti M Hybrid and the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid. You’ll remember the spot, showing the M35h ripping through the quarter-mile in less than 14 seconds, ahead of the hybrid Porsche. Infiniti got Guinness World Records to proclaim it the fastest accelerating full hybrid last year, which served as the inspiration for filming the online ad. infiniti-m35h-hybrid-2012 Now, a new video has been posted to YouTube, showing some behind the scenes footage of the filming of the ad. It’s not exactly earth-shattering stuff, as the parts we found most interesting were the shots of the camera chase car, which is neither an Infiniti nor a Porsche, but actually a Mercedes-Benz M-Class. While we like the spot, this second go-round with it had us contemplating other things. We always wonder about the effectiveness....

Range Rover Evoque Convertible 2012

Range-Rover-Evoque-convertible Land Rover-Range Rover -Evoque Convertible Concept While we’re still waiting for official details, we have received confirmation from the blokes at Land Rover that the Range Rover Evoque Convertible you see above is the real deal, and it will debut at next month’s 2012 Geneva Motor Show. At this time, Land Rover is calling the roofless wonder a concept, though a production model seems likely at some point in the near future. Based on the three-door Evoque, the convertible model will offer seating for four and be billed as the world’s first premium convertible SUV (sorry, Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet!).   Top Gear fans were some of the first to hear about the droptop Evoque when presenter Jeremy Clarkson used a pair of scissors to cut the roof off an Evoque during a news segment this week, but it took a while before the crafty Internet got around to leaking....

The body design of the BMW Concept M135i assigns the youthful and sporty looks of the new BMW 1 Series to a three-door compact....

IED Torino Cisitalia 202 concept 2012

Back in the mid-40s, Pininfarina designed a car for Cisitalia called (simply enough) the 202. The auto marque has long since died, but the 202 lives on as a hallmark of harmonious design. Now the students at the IED in Turin are paying homage with a new design study slated for unveiling at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Something of a collective thesis project by the masters students of the school’s transportation design program, the Cisitalia 202 E Concept was penned by Chin-Hsuan Chen of Taiwan and implemented under the watchful eyes of Pininfarina and Maserati head designers. More of a 1:1 model than a rolling show car, the 202 E (for Evoluzione) would (theoretically) be powered by a V8 driving 450 horsepower to the rear set of 19-inch wheels and follows such recent designs as Scorp-ION of 2011 and the Maserati Chicane of 2008.

BMW M550d xDrive 2012

Yes, you can calibrate the Driving Dynamic Control system to Eco Pro mode and get fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions numbers that are (somewhat) worthy of BMW’s EfficientDynamics initiative, but the environmentally friendly message has been given a distinct backseat here – even by the team in Munich. The emphasis on the M550d is on the engine’s revolutionary three-turbocharger scheme. This is the first-ever diesel for public sale deemed worthy of an M badge, and the tidal wave of energy that the powerplant provides makes its 155-mph top speed governor feel like a mandatory wall for reining things in rather than like a gentle and prudent reminder. It was clear some months ago that BMW was developing a “550” diesel-powered something with an M badge attached. Now obviously official, the newly formed M Performance Automobiles division within BMW AG is here to take regular production cars up to one hairy....

Kia Soul 1.6L Eco 2012

Kia trimmed its Soul lineup for 2012 by dropping the range-topping Sport model, and so now it offers only three trims: Base, + and !, which when spoken are simply referred to as Base, Plus and Exclaim. The Plus and Exclaim both come with Kia’s new 2.0-liter “Nu” four-cylinder engine that produces 164 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, significantly more than the 2.0-liter it replaces. Normally we’re interested in testing the most powerful engine an automobile has to offer, but in this case we have our eye on the Soul’s base engine: a new gasoline direct-injected (GDI) 1.6-liter four-cylinder rated at 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. Normally we’re interested in testing the most powerful engine an automobile has to offer, but in this case we have our eye on the Soul’s base engine. Why? Kia says the take rate on the Soul’s base engine for its first....

Gasoline vehicles soon to be overtaken by CNG, diesel in India

At a time when gasoline prices frequently fluctuate, cheap compressed natural gas (CNG) and diesel have started to climb the fuel-of-choice charts over in India. According to The Times of India, CNG is so hot that it will soon overtake gasoline as the fuel that powers the majority of vehicles in India. Of course, CNG’s rise to the top is not related to saving the environment but to the fact that it’s far cheaper than gasoline. The Times of India reports that a growing number of vehicle owners convert their gas-fueled automobiles into CNG-burnin’ machines out of necessity to save a couple of dollars per fill up. Automakers have taken note of this trend towards CNG and diesel in India and have responded by flooding the nation with small vehicles – including India’s most fuel-efficient sedan, the 54-mpg diesel-sipping Tata Indigo e-CS – that burn the now-popular alternative fuels.

Pike Research predicts 68% jump in global CNG vehicle sales by 2016

Commercial Fleets Will Power Natural Gas Vehicle Market through 2016  – September 14, 2011 natural gas car- CNG There are currently about 12.6 million natural gas vehicles (NGVs) in use worldwide, and sales of NGVs vary widely from region to region and country to country. The majority of NGVs are located in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, particularly in countries like Pakistan and Iran that lack extensive gasoline refining capacity. In North America, due largely to a lack of convenient refueling stations, demand for NGVs is largely relegated to the fleet market. Worldwide sales of natural gas vehicles are expected to grow rapidly over the next five years, to 3.2 million units annually by 2016 from 1.9 million in 2010, according to a recent report from Pike Research. The consumer market will continue to lag growth in commercial fleets, however: three-quarters of the new growth between 2010 and....

Waste Management wheels out 1,000th natural gas garbage truck

With the addition of its 1,000th clean-burning garbage truck, Waste Management can now officially claim that it operates the largest natural gas fleet in all of North America. Turning trash into fuel, natural gas trucks at Waste Management use renewable, ultra-low carbon fuel produced from the decomposition of organic waste at its landfills. The 1,000th truck symbolizes Waste Management’s ongoing commitment to green operations, says Duane Woods, senior vice-president at WM: More importantly, in one calendar year, WM’s 1,000 natural gas trucks will eliminate the need for eight million gallons of petroleum and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45,100 tons.

2012 Green Car of the Year winner is the Honda Civic Natural Gas

The 2012 Green Car of the Year award was snagged from the electric and diesel jaws of its competitors by the Honda Civic Natural Gas. In a year full of standard gasoline powertrain alternatives, the Civic beat out the Ford Focus Electric, Mitsubishi i, Toyota Prius V and the Volkswagen Passat TDI. Green Car Journal hands out the award and its rules state that the GCOTY needs to have a “quantifiable environmental achievement,” market significance and “newness.” Any car that has these clearly defined features and is available for sale by January 1, 2012 can be a nominee, and the list of finalists is whittled down by GCJ editors and selected industry and environmental experts. Over the last four years, the GCOTY was won by a hybrid (the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid in 2008), diesels (the Volkswagen Jetta TDI in 2009 and the Audi A3 TDI in 2010) and a plug-in....

Volkswagen Up! five-door hits the patent office

Images of a five-door version of the Volkswagen Up! have surfaced courtesy of a European patent office. The German automaker confirmed a five-door version of the pint-sized vehicle was headed to market, and Volkswagen even went so far as to show off the Cross Up! Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Judging by the patent photo, the production version of the five-door Up! will stick fairly close to the concept and will ride on a similarly tall suspension. That should give the vehicle more of a mini crossover appearance instead of a small hatchback. Information on drivetrain options is suitably scarce at the moment, but we expect the five-door Up! to roll off of the production line with the same engines as its shorter three-door kin. That means buyers should be able to tick boxes for either a 59-horsepower gasoline engine or a brawny 74-horsepower gas powerplant. A 67-horsepower natural....

AT&T orders 1,200 compressed natural gas Chevrolet Express Vans from GM

ATT Orders 1,200 CNG-powered Chevrolet Express Vans  – 2012-01-30 CNG-powered Chevrolet Express Vans DETROIT – ATT plans to take delivery of 1,200 Chevrolet Express compressed natural gas (CNG) dedicated cargo vans to be deployed to ATT service centers nationwide. Last week, the company announced the milestone deployment of its 5,000th alternative-fuel vehicle, a Chevrolet Express van, as part of the commitment. “CNG technology is important to ATT because it helps us reduce our fleet-based carbon emissions,” said Jerome Webber, ATT vice president of Fleet Operations. “It is also cost-effective and readily available in our country right now.”....

ItalDesign Giugiaro Volkswagen concept 2012

Italdesign Giugiaro Namir An auto salon like the Geneva Motor Show isn’t just a chance for automakers to show off their latest production and concept cars, but also for stoic design houses to shape the state of automotive design. So with Pininfarina, Bertone and Carrozzeria Touring all having released glimpses of the designs they will be unveiling this year at the Palexpo, so has ItalDesign Giugiaro. As you can see, there’s not much we can tell from this detail rendering, but what it does tell us is that the concept in question will be high-performance in orientation. Or at least look the part, anyway – minivans, hybrids and city cars seldom call for big air intakes like this one. While formerly an independent design house, these days ItalDesign is owned by Volkswagen. Its last couple of designs – the Tex and the Go! – have both worn VW badges on....

Porsche 911 Cabriolet 2012

Porsche-911-Black-Edition-Cabriolet-2012 … even though you might not think so at first. Nearly all of the formal presentation we were privy to was devoted to the roof, and almost all of what was left over was devoted to the 12-speaker, 800-watt Burmester stereo. Porsche has been doing what it does with the 911 for so long that no one really expected this particular convertible to go rogue. Still, engineers wanted to make sure we understood that they hadn’t just designed a roof, but that they’d figured out how to wrap folding-hardtop convenience inside fabric soft-top simplicity. The result is called the Panel Bow roof, and of course, it isn’t exactly simple. An aluminum crescent sits beneath the rear deck and the roof mechanism is controlled by two outboard aluminum arms. The 991 droptop uses roughly the same quantity of aluminum as the 997 cabrio’s, but the 991 uses a great deal....

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

2013-Hyundai-Genesis-Coupe It’s difficult to miss the changes to the nose of the Genesis Coupe. Designers slathered elements of the familial Fluidic Design language all over the front valance, complete with a hexagonal grille, aggressive HID headlamps with available LED daytime running lights, new fog lights and even a new hood with faux air inlets. The new face has more than a passing resemblance to the gaping maw found on the Veloster. While the Genesis Coupe’s profile has remained unchanged, new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs are now available. Likewise, the aft of the Coupe will be plenty familiar to the model’s fans, though brilliant new LED taillamp displays help give the model a significantly more upscale look. We know the styling isn’t going to garner many wolf whistles in traffic, but from where we sit, this design is a much-needed departure from the somewhat generic lines of the first-generation model.....

Toyota will boost production of Prius compact to meet high demand

Toyota will increase the production rate of its new compact version of its Prius hybrid in order to meet Japanese demand that may be 10 times that of its current supply, Green Car Congress reports, citing the Japan-based publication Nikkei. The world’s biggest maker of hybrids will increase production capacity for the Aqua – known as the Prius C in the U.S. – within the next three months, the website said, citing a Nikkei interview with Toyota Senior Managing Officer Takeshi Shirane. The executive said that Toyota may produce the Aqua at Central Motor’s factory in Miyagi Prefecture. Central Motor is one of three companies being merged into Toyota Motor East Japan Inc. this summer. Earlier this month, Hybrid Cars, again citing the Nikkei, reported that Toyota received about 120,000 orders for the Aqua from Dec. 26 – 31, the first days the car was available to the Japanese public.....

Paice drags Hyundai, Kia into long-running hybrid patent fight with Toyota

With all the news coming out recently about the small claims lawsuit over the Honda Civic Hybrid, readers may have forgotten the name behind a long-running legal issue over Toyota’s hybrid system: Paice. The latest development is that Paice and the Abell Foundation (an investor in Paice) have sued Hyundai and Kia over the gas-electric technology used in the Optima and Sonata hybrids (pictured), which shares some parts with Paice says infringes its patents, just as it says Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive does. Read up on the details of Alex Severinsky’s story here. Paice claims that Hyundai and Kia should have known that Toyota was dealing with legal issues – especially since Paice has been contacting Hyundai about the issue – and says that the Korean automakers are infringing three patents that Paice owns. Toyota and Paice settled their long-looming hybrid patent infringement case in 2010 after eight years, during....

Newt Gingrich: You cannot put a gun rack in a Chevy Volt -UPDATE

Looks like Newt Gingrich is getting into the right-wing, let’s-all-hate-on-the-Chevrolet-Volt bandwagon. During a campaign stop at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, the trailing Republican candidate said, “Let me start from a simple premise that Oklahomans will understand: you cannot put a gun rack in a Volt,” Talking Points Memo reports. It appears that Gingrich is trying out a new attack line, as Raw Story is reporting that he used a similar line at an event in Suwanee, GA. There, he continued, “There is no reason not to believe that we couldn’t stabilize with American production by drowning demand in supply the old-fashioned, free market way. There’s no reason we couldn’t have a stable price around $2 or $2.50 [per gallon].” Nope, no reason at all, right? *UPDATE: Well, that didn’t take long: a video to prove otherwise can be found after the jump.

Subaru Impreza 2012

For better or worse, Subaru has held onto the company’s tradition of embracing unconventional styling. We’ve never loved the automaker’s products because of their bodywork, and the 2012 Impreza sedan isn’t out to buck that trend. Designers have blessed the four door with an aggressive face that’s far from anonymous. Large, scowling headlamps lie beneath a nicely contoured hood and are split by an attractive hexagonal grille. The front fascia features a large lower air inlet with sizable fog light bezels set far toward each corner. And speaking of corners, engineers have rolled in the squared-off aero edges popularized by hybrid models like the Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Volt and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. We’re willing to chalk up the sedan’s questionable lines as par for the course from a company responsible for the likes of the curious SVX and infamous Tribeca. From the front, the 2012 Impreza looks more like a....

Lexus IS F 2011 Car Reviews

Lexus IS F 2011 The Lexus IS-F was a big step up from its six-cylinder IS 250 and IS 350siblings. Not only did it pack eight-cylinder power, but its brakes, suspension and tires were tuned for serious enthusiasts. Complementing the mechanical upgrades, Lexus also made a slew of cosmetic changes to the bodywork, and fitted the cabin with special sport seats and other performance kit. While we liked the IS F when we first spent time with it in 2009, we weren’t completely blown away. Aside from its lack of personality (blame Japanese sterility), much of our frustration was directed at its sport-tuned suspension, which was much too firm for our tastes. It seemed intent on rattling the amalgam fillings from our jaws. “While the Lexus sport sedan is great in the canyons, a joy to toss into the corners, straight-line driving on anything but polished marble will leave you....

2012 Infiniti QX56 [w/video]

Based on the Nissan Patrol, a full-size SUV not sold in North America, the Japanese-built Infiniti QX56 was completely redesigned for 2011. Updates for 2012 were negligible, and basically amounted to shuffling some different options around to different packages. Our test vehicle was a four-wheel-drive model (with a standard locking center differential and low-range transfer case; a rear-wheel-drive version is also available) that carries a starting MSRP of $61,800. But in this case – loaded up with every available package – the sticker was $75,340, including the $990 destination charge. That makes the QX one seriously expensive machine and the priciest in the Infiniti lineup by a goodly amount. Of course, your sixty-to-seventy large buys a lot of vehicle. Make no mistake, the QX is a big boy truck, the sort that makes you think twice about tossing the keyfob to your buddy who’s never owned anything larger than a....

2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302

There was never going to be a problem with power. The 412-horsepower 5.0-liter engine in the Mustang GT is a corker on its own, but Ford has gone to a lot of trouble to extract 444 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque for this car. They could’ve simply bolted on a blower and called it a day, but in order to maximize reliability and stay true to the legacy of the original Boss, natural aspiration was called for. To that end, the 5.0-liter has been treated to CNC-machined aluminum heads, special pistons and sinter-forged con rods, sodium-filled exhaust valves and an uprated crankshaft. Other key changes include a 3.73 final drive ratio, reworked 1.0g-approved oil pan, a composite short-run intake and a unique quad-outlet exhaust system. The Boss offers one of the best soundtracks we’ve ever heard on a mass-production car. It’s those last two bits that will have you....

2012 Shelby GTS

As you might remember, this isn’t the first time that Shelby has built a Mustang for the masses. The Shelby GT from a few years ago was fairly reasonably priced at $9,500 above the Mustang GT’s msrp and featured an upgraded suspension system, cold air intake, unique 18-inch wheels, short-throw shifter and a few exterior modifications for a unique look. The car was a big hit, with Shelby producing several thousands examples from 2007 to 2008 in both coupe and convertible form. The Shelby GTS won’t be sold through Ford dealers like the GT. In a way, the GTS is the successor to the GT, but Shelby is going about its latest value model in a different way. For starters, the GTS won’t be sold through Forddealers like the GT. Customers have to send their own Mustangs to Shelby’s facility in Las Vegas where the conversion is done. The other....

2011 Chrysler Town & Country Touring

The biggest change for the 2011 model year (2012 models are just starting to hit dealerships, but changes are limited to standard leather and rear-seat DVD for all models, as well as some new colors) is the addition of Chrysler’s new 283-horsepower Pentastar V6 with 260 pound-feet of torque. That’s best-in-class power if you’re scoring at home, and the monster mill makes nice with a six-speed automatic transmission that offers smooth shifts and improved fuel economy. The Odyssey and Sienna may have lower starting prices, but neither offers as many standard features as the Town Country. Our $32,965 (plus $835 destination) Town and Country Touring tester also includes an impressive list of standard features like Stow ‘n Go seats that fold flat into the floor, a six-speaker audio system and leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob. Other standard features include rain-sensing wipers, power side doors and rear hatch, blind-spot sensors....

Dartz in Monaco with Jo-Mojo electric roadster concept car

Think of the name Dartz and, if you’re up on your whale foreskin-upholstered SUVs, you’ll invariably arrive at the Prombron. But while glad to furnish Eastern European mobsters with the machine that makes the Hummer look like a beauty queen, Dartz is keen to break out of the Prombron’s mold with sleeker offerings. That’s what led to the design of the chopped-down Nagel sedan and, more recently, to the Mojo roadster. Now Dartz has followed up with another design it calls the Jo-MoJo. As promised, the Jo-Mojo is an electric roadster. Designed, like other Dartz concepts, by Eduard Gray, the Jo-Mojo packs an 80-horsepower electric motor that can be recharged (over who knows how long a timeframe) by a retractable solar panel that encloses the cockpit when parked and acts as the only roof to speak of. For some inexplicable reason, even though the occupants are exposed to the elements....

2012 Ford Edge Limited EcoBoost

Our Dark Blue Pearl Metallic tester in Limited trim carried a base price tag of $34,915 that rises to $35,910 by ticking the EcoBoost option box. Ford doesn’t mess around when it comes to the Limited trim: Standard accoutrements include leather-trimmed and heated seats up front, a 10-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, SYNC infotainment, a 390-watt Sony sound system, back-up sensors and a rear view camera. Our Edge was also packed with some of Ford’s top options, including the 2.0-liter EcoBoost upgrade, Ford’s excellent navigation system ($795), and BLIS blind-spot detection ($485). This Edge Limited also included the Drivers Entry Package ($895), which adds remote start, push-button start and a power rear lift gate. Also making the scene was Ford’s much-maligned MyFord Touch system – in this guise, it includes a pair of 4.2-inch LED screens in the gauge cluster and five-way steering wheel controls. With all options....

2012 Chevrolet Sonic LTZ

Our test vehicle was an $18,690, five-door LTZ. This is the top-of-the-line Sonic, which is why its MSRP was so much more expensive than the $14,635 (plus $760 destination) starting price Chevy is advertising. While nearly $20,000 for a subcompact that in a previous life was the cheapest car sold in America seems high, the Sonic hatchback looks and feels like a quality product from the start. Its design is aggressive, leaning purposefully forward thanks to two character lines running from the front wheel well towards the rear of the car. The Sonic has the best looking front fascia we’ve seen on a Chevy in years, with oversize fog lamps complimenting the projector-style headlights, which are wrapped in a black bezel to make them appear even more recessed. They will no doubt prove hard to keep clean, but fashion exacts a price. So too does the clever rear door handle,....

Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 2012

Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 2012 Before rocketing off in an S63 AMG, it’s essential to put the four-door sedan in perspective. Mercedes-Benz sells seven different variants of S-Class. First launched in 1973, the current version (internally called the W221 platform) was introduced in 2006. The automaker’s 2012 S-Class lineup starts with the diesel-powered six-cylinder S350 BlueTEC (base price $93,425) and tops out with the extremely rare, twin-turbocharged twelve-cylinder S65 AMG (base price $211,775). The S63 AMG is the most powerful eight-cylinder model in the range, impeccably tuned for a discerning performance-oriented enthusiast customer by its AMG division. The base price of a 2012 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is $140,175. Yet consider that a starting point, as our test vehicle was loaded with nearly $30,000 worth of options. These included the aforementioned matte finish Magno Platinum paint ($3,950), 20-inch forged AMG wheels ($1,700), Splitview display ($710), Driver Assist Package with Distronic Plus cruise....

Suzuki shows Concept XA trucklet in Delhi

Maruti-Suzuki-Concept-XA-Alpha-s Want to know how highly regarded the multiple-award winning Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is? At the recent Auto Expo in Delhi, India Maruti Suzuki showed a concept that is, to our eyes, extraordinarily reminiscent of the small English SUV – although we’ll readily admit the glasshouse is a tweaked version of the current Suzuki Swift. Maruti-Suzuki-Concept-XA-Alpha Called the XA Alpha concept, some reports say that it’s underpinned by the Swift platform, while others report that the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy off-roader, based on the Jimny, provides the chassis. For comparison purposes, the XA is just a few inches shorter and narrower than an Evoque, but the same height as the Evoque four-door. Maruti-Suzuki-Concept-XA-Alpha-Rear Plans for production are said to rest with audience reception, which appears to have – understandably – been quite positive. If and when a production version does arrive, you can probably kiss the suicide doors goodbye,....

Renault New Minivans – Sleeker Scenic – Grand Scenic

Renault-Scenic-and-Grand-Scenic-2012 There’s seldom anything particularly exciting or glamorous about a minivan. But that doesn’t mean their producers can’t keep trying. Enter the new 2012 Renault Scenic, and its big brother, the Grand Scenic. Renault-Scenic-And-Grand-Scenic-2012-Right-Side Being European MPVs as opposed to American minivans, the Scenic – and even the larger, seven-passenger Grand Scenic – are typically smaller than the big family-haulers we’re used to on this side of the Atlantic. But with facelift Renault has just given the line, they’re also considerably sleeker-looking than the vehicles we’re used to seeing lined up outside the local elementary school. Renault-Grand-Scenic-2012 That much comes down to the new lights and bumpers front and rear, elements that Renault has packaged with an upgraded interior and a raft of new engines and technologies that set the new Scenic range apart from the one it replaces. A pair of low-emission engines – a 115-horsepower, 1.2-liter turbo and....

SMS Supercars unveils 620 Camaro, auctions first example for charity at Barrett-Jackson

When Steve Saleen launched his new company, SMS Supercars, back in 2008, he announced that he would be expanding his portfolio of vehicles to include the muscle car offerings from Chevrolet and Dodge. First up was the 570 and 570X Challenger, followed soon after by the 302 Mustang. Now, Steve Saleen’s muscle car trifecta is finally complete, as SMS officially unveiled the 620 Camaro at Barrett-Jackson this week. The car maintains the styling cues featured on both the Challenger and Mustang with an aggressive front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, butterfly hood and chrome 20-inch wheels. Inside is a custom leather interior, and under the hood, the 6.2-liter V8 has been supercharged to 620 horsepower and 570 pound-feet torque. In addition to unveiling the car at Barrett-Jackson this week, SMS actually auctioned off the first production example last night. This particular car was also a special “Bondurant Edition” in honor....

Bugatti showcases the Bumblebee of Veyrons in Qatar

With a gazillion color options for every little part of the Bugatti Veyron, there’s no reason why any two examples should be alike. (Except for maybe an inverse correlation between wealth and imagination.) So it would stand to reason that every Bugatti should be considered a special edition of one. And that certainly appears to be the case, as the French marque seems to bring out another special edition at every possible opportunity. That opportunity last arose at the Dubai Motor Show, where Bugatti presented three unique examples of the Veyron Grand Sport, the vehicle that holds the title of “world’s fastest convertible.” Now the elite marque is returning to the Persian Gulf for the Qatar Motor Show with what appears (to our eyes, at least) to be one of the same examples, decked out in yellow and black – said to be founder Ettore Bugatti’s favorite color combination. Thoughtfully,....

First Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG in America to be auctioned off at Boca concours

Of all the car shows around the calendar year, the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance doesn’t typically fall on our radar screen. But maybe it should, because the annual event in Florida – young as it is – has a history of offering firsts. Maybe not the first time a vehicle is seen in North America, mind you, but a first just the same. Last year the event included the sale of the first examples of the Ferrari FF, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster and Audi R8 GT to be delivered in America. The year before that, it was the Audi R8 5.2 FSI (yeah, that’s the one with the V10) and Ferrari California. And before that, the event’s auctioneers sold off the first Audi R8 Spyder, Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Noticing a pattern here? Organizers have no intention of dropping the ball this year, when they’ll be auctioning....

Studebaker Motor Company resuscitated, looking for investors

The annals of automotive history are filled with nameplates that weren’t quite able to survive the boom and bust nature of the business, especially here in the United States. One of the most successful orphaned automakers was Studebaker, remembered fondly for such design gems as the bullet-nosed post-World War II Starlight and trend-setting fiberglass-bodied Avanti. Sadly, Studebaker officially ceased producing automobiles in 1966, though a small portion of its legacy lives today in the form of the ex-Kaiser AM General. But if a Colorado-based business has its way, the Studebaker name will once again appear on vehicles sold in America. Somehow, we’re far from convinced any of its conceptual designs will ever see the light of day. Looking over the proposed revival, we see a range of so-called Studebaker cars, trucks, motorcycles and scooters. Half the motorcycles are actually Hyosung models from Korea with Studebaker scripting on the fuel tanks,....

Jonathon Ward talks about his Icon Derelicts in latest eGarage video

There are very few things that get the unanimous approval of everyone here at Autoblog. One of them is Icon 4×4, which makes impossibly expensive yet worth-every-penny reimaginings of history’s best off-roaders. For this year’s SEMA Show, Icon debuted something new that had nothing to do with off-roading, yet still had our whole team salivating. Christened a “Derelict” by Icon founder and designer Jonathon Ward, this 1952 Chevy Coupe looks like an abused artifact from a time not worth remembering. Knowing Icon like we do, however, it’s anything but. The Derelict is fitted with a 6.2-liter V8 from General Motors producing 430 horsepower and an interior upholstered in gorgeous vintage briefcase leather, but the exterior is as original and rusty as it was when Icon found it. What we didn’t know at SEMA is that the ’52 Chevy isn’t the first Derelict that Icon produced. Our friends at eGarage have....

BMWism.com chronicles BMW designers through the eras

Chris Bangle may be the name most recently associated with BMW design, but he’s just one of many men and women who have sketched and sculpted automobiles for Bayerische Motoren Werke. BMW enthusiast website BMWism.com has gone all the way back to the beginning of the brand, when a BMW was a knockoff of an Austin 7. The names we all know show up in the chronology; giants of post-World War II automotive design world like Michelotti, Bertone, Gandini, Bracq, and of course, Hofmeister. In addition to the Italian hired guns who sketched for BMW at one time or another, a few surprising names dot BMW’s history. Josef Ganz, the largely unsung automotive engineer responsible for much of the original Volkswagen Beetle, also did contract work for BMW. Aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm based his Kamm-Coupe on BMW 328 mechanicals. Raymond Loewy’s mid-century lines were wrought upon at least one BMW 507,....

Jay Leno upgrades his 1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer

Jay Leno has a special place in his heart for steam power. The comedian has a collection of vintage vehicles that have more in common with a classic train than a modern car, and of those, his 1906 Stanley Steamer seems to be one of his favorites. In 2007, the Stanley suffered a bit of a catastrophic failure, and Leno and his team of steam mechanics have been working to get the vehicle back into ship shape ever since. Of course, in Leno’s vocabulary, “ship shape” means better than ever. The Stanley now wears hydraulic drum brakes from a Jaguar XK120 instead of the manual drums found on the original Steamer. The crew also worked in a set of electric fuel pumps and replaced the acetylene headlights and oil tail lamps with electric versions. The team also managed to bump up the horsepower. The Steamer originally cruised along with a....

Saab collection to be sold after all

Just when we thought the classic vehicles owned by Saab were safe from the gavel, tragedy strikes. According to Hemmings, the vehicles held in the Saab Cars North America Heritage Collection will be auctioned in an 10-car lot on Friday, February 10. Vehicles like the gorgeous and painfully rare 1956 Type 94 Sonett Super Sport pictured above will join a host of other iconic Saab models for bid in Stearling Heights, Michigan. According to Hemmings, interested parties may submit their bids before noon on Friday to McTevia Associates, the law firm Saab hired to handle the company’s creditors here in the States. A 25 percent cash deposit is required. The collection includes notable hardware such as a 1967 fastback with 25,353 miles on its triple-carb three-cylinder engine as well as the 1960 96 that won the Royal Automobile Club Rally with Erik Carlsson behind the wheel. There’s plenty of history....

Amazing mod Egg chairs in your favorite classic racecar liveries

These days, you only have a Ball chair in your office if you’re an evil genius or confused enough to think it’s still 1962. The clever artists at Racing Emotion Design are out to change all that, though. The company has taken it upon themselves to slather the spherical seating, as well as an “Egg” style chair, in some of the world’s most famous racing liveries. Want to kick back in the same style as the Gulf Porsche 917? No problem. What if the Pink Pig is more your style? Racing and Emotion Design have you covered. The French designers have even worked up a chair in Ayrton Senna’s helmet livery, as well as the colors found on the racer’s Lotus 97T. In all, there are 21 separate liveries to chose from. We’re particularly smitten with the BMW 3.0 CSL piece, though the various Gulf liveried thrones are likely to....

Baja 1000 1970 Grabber Olds is our personal hero

Racing is racing. Whether it’s pounding the quarter mile into submission or kicking it sideways around a circle track, going fender to fender or against the clock is the same kind of rush no matter the flavor. As you well know, some of the biggest names in hot rodding tried their hand at what would eventually become the Baja 1000 in the ’60s. Parnelli Jones, Don Prudhomme, Jim Garner and Steve McQueen all headed to the sands of Mexico to bash around in massive muscle cars between 1967 and 1972. Needless to say, few of those racers are around today. Ron Johnson of Tacoma, Washington found what was left of Jim Garner’s 1970 “Grabber Olds” 442 back in 2008 and began the laborious process of stitching the vehicle back together. Miraculously, he was able to find the original aluminum-block 410 V8 and even the vehicle’s hood, which was removed before....

60 years of the Mercedes-Benz SL

Only a tiny number of cars have been unquestioned status symbols for six straight decades. The Mercedes-Benz SL is one of them, and – just like another one, coincidentally – it’s new for this year. Although “Magic Sky Control” doesn’t have the same classic ring as “pagoda roof,” the R231 2013 SL aims to keep the streak going. For folks who might not know where the streak began, there’s a short refresher video after the jump that will speed you from the 1952 300 SL up to the present day. Enjoy.

1964 Ferrari 250 GTO sells for nearly 32 Million Dollars

Widely regarded as one of the most sought-after cars ever made, it’s not every day that a Ferrari 250 GTO changes hands. But that day, according to reports out of the UK, has come. Word has it that a private treaty sale – the only way vintage machinery of this caliber ever moves – of one such 1964 model has yielded a purchase price of £20.2 million – $31.8M in equivalent U.S. currency– just shy of the $30-40 million said to have been paid in 2010 for a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. In other words, this is the second most valuable car ever sold, and the most expensive ever sold in Britain. Or, at least, whose sale has ever gone on record, as many of these exchanges remain secretive. Even in this case, although the purchase price was reportedly confirmed by the broker, the identities of the buyer and....

Aston Martin DB5 rejoining James Bond franchise for Skyfall

James Bond has driven a lot of fine machinery over the years. And most of them have been Aston Martins. But few have been as iconic – or as constant – as the classic DB5. The iconic Aston first appeared – complete with machine guns, revolving license plate, ejector seat and chariot-style slicing wheel knockoffs – in 1964’s Goldfinger, and has since returned to reprise the role in Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and (most recently) in Casino Royale. And now it’s been spotted on the set of the upcoming fresh installment of the 007 franchise, Skyfall. Although this won’t be the first time the DB5 (pictured above as featured in Goldfinger) has returned since the Sean Connery days, it is expected to be the first time it will appear in full battle array in a chase scene. Watch HRE make one of its Vintage Series wheels

We’re smitten with the Vintage Series three-piece wheels from HRE. The hardware is about as cool as it gets in our opinion, and you can bet we’d rock a set if we had a vehicle worthy of the rollers. If you’ve ever wondered how the company goes about putting the wheels together, you’re in luck. HRE and StanceWorks have collaborated on a video documenting the ins and outs of crafting “investment grade” wheels. The manufacturing process is set to a suitably epic soundtrack, and the high-def images of aluminum being milled from soulless blocks to three-piece glory are mesmerizing. Take a second to hit the jump and check out the clip for yourself.

Extremely rare 1913 Hispano-Suiza Type Alfonso XIII headed for Amelia Island

Lot 197 – 1913 Hispano-Suiza “King Alfonso XIII” Double Berline Estimate: $750,000-$1,000,000 US 64 bhp, 3,620 cc inline four-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission, semi-elliptic leaf springs front and rear, rear mechanical drum brakes. • One of only four built • An extremely original and authentic example • Fascinating history Almost from the outset, individual owners of the Hispano-Suiza entered their cars into the various road races taking place around the world. Engineer Mark Birkigt formally entered the factory into these forays and consistently improved the performance of his team cars until they achieved an impressive string of racing successes, which translated into sales. Buyers clamored for a production version and Birkigt complied, introducing the 45-Cr “race” version, so named because it was officially rated at 45 horsepower. The new engine was the Type 15T, but to the public the model was officially marketed as the Type Alfonso XIII. Young Alfonso....

Pogea Corvette modernizes an American classic

MARKDORF, 01.02.2012Back to the Future – POGEA RACING updates 1959 Corvette with latest technology “This Corvette unites classic automobile design in balance with the latest in modern vehicle technology.” This is how Eduard Pogea, head of POGEA RACING GmbH outlines the ’59 model Corvette convertible modernised by his company on a customer’s orders. And continues: “Within the space of only one year we developed, produced and adapted current technology to fit in an American Old timer. Our objective was to marry contemporary driving characteristics, a terrifically powerful engine, dependable brakes and a refined vehicle interior with classic bodywork.” The chassis for this demanding project consists of an in-house tube frame manufactured in cooperation with Foose Design in the USA. This frame not only significantly improves the convertible’s torsional stiffness, it also forms a solid base on which to mount the heightadjustable coilover suspension, as well as the modern drive and....

2012 Jaguar XF Supercharged [w/video]

Jaguar first introduced us to its XF sedan at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The strikingly handsome four-door, designed by Ian Callum, replaced the retro-steeped S-Type in the British automaker’s lineup when it rolled into North American showrooms as all-new for the 2009 model year. Americans were initially offered a choice between a naturally-aspirated 4.2-liter V8 and a supercharged variant of the same engine – the flagship was a model called the XF Supercharged. There were big changes in 2010 when a 5.0-liter V8 arrived to deliver more power to the upper trim levels. While the XF Supercharged also returned, it was eclipsed by a new flagship model dubbed XFR. The high-performance variant featured more horsepower, oversized brakes, adaptive suspension, 20-inch wheels, limited-slip differential and many cosmetic enhancements. Its target was enthusiast-tuned models from Germany and America. While 2010 was exciting for the XF, the 2011 model year was quiet.....

2012 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring AWD [w/video]

Our Stormy Blue Mica tester is a Grand Touring model that boasts standard features like leather seating surfaces, along with hide-covered steering wheel and shift knob, eight-way power driver’s seat and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. Options include Mazda’s Moonroof and Bose audio package ($2,255), navigation package ($1,665) and power liftgate ($400). With all options present and accounted for, our tester rang in at $39,990, including a $795 destination fee. From the outside, there haven’t been any changes to the CX-9 since its subtle refresh for 2010. Yet while the form of the big Mazda crossover hasn’t been altered, it’s still a modern-looking and attractive outer shell. The CX-9 features many of the same distinctive styling elements of the smaller CX-7, but the larger utility vehicle appears less edgy and a bit more mature. We’re also fans of its nicely fitted 20-inch wheels, mated here to P245/50R20 all-season tires. The 20s are....

Mercedes-Benz SLK350 2012

Mercedes-Benz-SLK350-2012 To many buyers, the most important styling aspect of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK is the massive three-pointed star emblazoned on the front grille. That grille is in the shape of a rounded trapezoid, mimicking the brand’s latest design ethos and making the little SLK look a lot like the trendsetting CLS and its bigger brother, the SL, which itself was redesigned for the 2013 model year. The SLK commands a striking presence with its manly schnoz and massive square-jawed maw. Moving backwards from its angular front fascia, what we see are mostly straight lines without a lot of surface detailing. The hindquarters of the car cut off rather abruptly behind the rear wheels and eschew the straight-edge character of the rest of the car in favor of several gently sweeping curves. To our eyes, this roadster’s best view is from the front, and it gets less and less harmonious....

Buick Regal GS 2012

Buick-Regal-GS-2012 Buick Regal GS 2012 has turbocharged DOHC 16-valve I-4 , direct-injected 2.0-liter inline-4 engine producing 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque . GS accelerate 0-60 miles  in 6.3-seconds. Lacking a similar performance dossier or brand cachet, the GS needs to deliver an exceptional driving experience, which we’re happy to report it mostly does. What it doesn’t do, however, is mess too much with the basic Regal package. That’s neither here nor there, as the Regal is a middle-of-the-road car that claims just as few fans as it does critics. The addition of monstrous air intakes and chromed dual exhaust tips to the new front and rear fascias isn’t likely to change that, though perhaps the optional 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels might. They’re both pretty (thank you, chrome) and aggressive looking, showing off big, 14-inch front rotors and Brembo calipers up front. Inside, the upgrades are similarly substantial and focused....

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2012

Autoblog is no stranger to the ZR1. We drove it to Hell and back in May of 2009, and at Spring Mountain Raceway last May. As the ZR1 enters its fourth year of production, Chevrolet has treated its flagship to a host of small enhancements inside and out, all of which are designed to improve the coupe’s comfort, performance and value. Last year, the Corvette ZR1 was delivered with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. With a “maximum performance summer” classification (treadwear rating of 220), the well-respected rubber delivered impressive handling. For 2012, Chevrolet is cranking things up several notches by offering the optional High-Performance package (PDE ZR1) featuring new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires. The “track and competition” classified compound (with a treadwear rating of just 80!) is optimized for warm, dry conditions to increase cornering and handling capability. They are “… essentially street-legal versions of a racing....

Hyundai Veloster 2012

Hyundai-Veloster-2012 We’re taught never to judge a book by its cover, but you can understand a lot about the Veloster just from its appearance: quirky, cool and not like anything else you’ll get in the segment. Of course, all Veloster design dissections start with that trick third door – a neatly integrated, front-hinged rear door on the passenger side. Those with a trained eye will notice it straight away, but to my friends who had never heard of the Veloster, showing off that third door was always met with reactions of, “Woah, cool.” Styling aside, the functional benefits are truly welcomed during grocery runs and when you need to throw an extra person or two in the back seats. Checkout the Test & Review Video of Hyundai Veloster 2012 Would we like a fourth door on the driver’s side? Probably. But then the Veloster wouldn’t be as unique. Would we....

2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport

The Jeep marketing machine seldom misses as opportunity to remind us of the brand’s rugged roots. From the torrent of advertising gushing from Chrysler HQ, you’d be forgiven for thinking that every Jeep owner spends his days forging trails and fording streams, but the fair majority of Jeep products and their owners are happier commuting than communing with nature. Even the Wrangler, stalwart flag bearer for the Jeep brand, has grown in every direction over the decades. With a new engine, a more refined interior and an optional well-sorted hard top, has the Wrangler strayed too far from its billy goat roots? The Wrangler remains one of the most capable off-road machines money can buy straight from the factory. The answer, of course, is no. The Wrangler remains one of the most capable off-road machines money can buy straight from the factory, and years of abuse, research and development from....

Lexus GS 450h 2013

Lexus GS 450h 2013 While the new GS 450h continues to pay homage to two different masters, Lexus has, from the outset, done a better job at splitting the difference. With an entirely new V6 engine and revised hybrid system, the 2013 model has remarkably improved fuel economy, while sacrificing just a bit on the raw performance side. According to Lexus, the new model will be rated at 31 mpg combined (29/34 city/highway), an improvement of eight miles per gallon over the old 2011 model. Do the math and that’s a 35-percent improvement, which seems like a pretty good tradeoff for less than half a second in 0-60 time. By Lexus’ stopwatch, the 2013 GS 450h does 0-60 miles per hour in 5.6 seconds, compared to 5.2 seconds for the old GS hybrid. The 2011 GS was offered with three engine choices: A 303-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, a 342-hp 4.6-liter V8,....

Audi A4 Quattro 2013

Audi A4 2013 The only A4 2.0 TFSI sedan available for testing carried the standard six-speed manual and was gifted with Quattro all-wheel drive. The on-road behavior of this most popular North American A4 engine trim frankly hasn’t changed a whole lot, but that’s not a criticism. There is still 208 horsepower on tap and torque stands at an eminently usable 258 pound-feet between 1,500 and 4,200 rpm. Bear in mind that’s for a car that weighs in at 3,550 pounds as tested (we’re estimating it’ll ring up at 3,640 pounds with the U.S.’ optional eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox). That’s a net weight loss of over 50 pounds if we are to believe 2011 and 2012 spec sheets from both sides of the pond placed side-by-side. Leading the tally of changes is a revamped thermal management system that heats everything more quickly at start-up in order to avoid wasting energy, a....

Volkswagen CC Europe and US 2013

Volkswagen CC 2013 Whereas the 2.0-liter inline TSI four-cylinder in Europe yields up to 208 horsepower (SAE rated), the United States version in the CC still rates 200 hp. As to the desirable 3.6-liter V6 engine, Europeans get 295 hp, while the U.S. remains 280 hp strong. The new exterior paint seen here, Black Oak Brown Metallic, is really a handsome shade, but sadly it won’t be crossing the ocean either. Likewise, these very slick optional 18×8-inch Lakeville alloys on our VR6 4Motion will stay in Europe, the U.S. car holding onto the standard Interlagos design. And no 19×8-inch optional Lugano alloys available either. Poop. While this is beginning to sound like VW’s Grinch stole Christmas, all of the major aesthetic changes in the exterior and interior look will indeed come over on the boat from the Emden factory in northern Germany. These include an all-new front fascia, more pronounced....

Mercedes-Benz-ML63-AMG-2012

Mercedes-Benz-ML63-AMG-2012-Side-Rear This is the all-new 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, and it isn’t the first high-performance sport utility from this German automaker. In 1999, Mercedes-Benz made history when it introduced the world’s first practical high-performance SUV – the ML55 AMG. (The 1992 GMC Typhoon was ahead of its time, but not very practical.) Mercedes didn’t disappoint when it revealed the 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG at the LA Auto Show. The ML55’s first-generation body-on-frame platform was fitted with a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 making 340 horsepower. Against the clock, the all-wheel-drive SUV could hit 60 mph in just under seven seconds with a top speed of nearly 150 mph. In 2005, it was succeeded by the ML63 AMG, based on a second-generation unibody platform, which was equipped with a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 rated at 510 horsepower. With a 0-60 time of about five seconds and an electronically governed 155-mph top speed, the....

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 2012

chevrolet-camaro-zl1-2012 It used to be that the only meaningful bits of Camaro or Mustang performance data could be measured in a straight line. We’re talking 0-60, 0-100 and the ever-important quarter-mile time and trap speed. Let’s get them out of the way right now. The official 0-60 time is 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile is dispatched in 12 seconds flat. The Camaro ZL1’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8, which shares its basic spec sheet with the Cadillac CTS-V and Chevy Corvette ZR1, puts out 580 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 556 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. The official 0-60 time is 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile is dispatched in 12 seconds flat. Top speed is listed as 184 miles per hour, thanks in part to an aero package that includes a new front fascia, a carbon fiber hood with functional air extractor vents and an undertray with NACA ducts....
